Oil Pulling

I consider myself mainstream-fringe when it comes to approaches to health.   It was only when I started to investigate more about coconut oil and the seemingly endless list of uses and benefits, that I found myself ordering a bunch of books on Amazon – amongst them was one entitled “Oil Pulling”.

Of course, I googled what it was and now although I am not a frequent proponent of the technique (those who know me know how I love to talk, even if it is to the cat first thing in the morning);   I am constantly amazed at how many fellow mainstream-fringe and some definitely mainstream (if we are putting people into boxes) customers who ARE regular users of the technique.

So what is Oil Pulling?

It is an ancient method mentioned in Ayurveda about 5,000 years ago.  Oil pulling is one of the powerful ways to maintain good health and can help various ailments. This Ayurvedic practice is effective and gaining popularity across many countries.

It is a simple method of rinsing your mouth with a high quality oil first thing in the morning before you drink water or brush your teeth.

Oil pulling benefits the health as it pulls out bacteria, parasites and harmful toxins from the mouth and mucous membranes. Traditionally, cold-pressed oils such as coconut oil or sesame oil have been used for the treatment. Oil pulling has been noted to having other health benefits – it is used as a technique in Ayurveda to purify and strengthen the body. It is a healthy way of cleaning the mucous membranes, because the oil swishes back and forth before being spit out, which allows the mouth’s mucous membranes and large veins to absorb the essential nutrients from the oil.  In Ayurveda medicine it is considered a cure for clearing acne, maintaining oral health, promoting better thyroid function and gingivitis, to name a few.  Apart from offering health benefits, oil pulling also has beauty benefits.  As it helps pull out toxins, oil pulling is a healthy method to get clear and acne-free skin.

How to?

First thing in the morning – before drinking anything – take a teaspoon or more of Virgin Coconut Oil into your mouth and simply swish the oil around in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes.  Personally, I find that time frame RATHER difficult to sustain – so start off with 5 minutes and gradually progress to a longer time over a few days, as you become accustomed to the routine.  Once you are in a routine of oil pulling each morning, it’ll become a breeze.   You will discover that very quickly the oil loses its oiliness and combines with your saliva.

Here are some comments customers have made to us about their oil pulling experiences:

  • A friend had a toothache and after 2 days started oil pulling – it was gone within a couple of days and no dental work needed.
  • Ulcers in the mouth – healed within days.
  • My breathe feels so much fresher.
  • My teeth are whiter.
  • My gums are definitely reaping the benefits of me oil pulling each day.

Why not give it a go.    You may be surprised how the technique could benefit you.
